Listen to the rhythm of your heart
“We’re musicians. We make music for a living. It’s that simple. Nothing else matters.” Eddie Van Halen
About Talking Drums
Family-run and owned, Talking Drums offers interactive percussion workshops and sessions.
Based in beautiful KwaZulu-Natal, we facilitate and host school workshops, teambuilding sessions and events. Whether recreational or educational, each Talking Drums session is tailor-made to suit your company, school, or group’s needs and hosted by our team. We use handmade Djembes, crafted by our master artist, Michael, and each session is run by Michael, Tracey and Cyngen.
Talking Drums has fourteen years’ experience in hosting and coordinating percussion workshops, with the core team remaining unchanged during that time. As our audiences and participants have evolved and changed, so too have our methods and schedule. Nowadays, school sessions place a bigger emphasis on educational outcomes, while the adult sessions focus more keenly on teambuilding and breaking down interpersonal barriers between people. Moreover, teambuilding sessions help to enable an atmosphere of cohesion and unity, which is often lost within workplace groups due to deadline demands and related stress levels.
The Talking Drums team also manufactures Djembes, Bass ports, Ashiko Bass Drums and Cajons by hand. A Talking Drums instrument is not only a delight to own, but a locally crafted treasure, unlike any other in the world.
